Chelation and What It Means
First, pronounce it correctly. Key’ lation. This is the process by which mineral substances are changed into their digestible form. Common mineral supplements such as bone-meal and dolomite are often not chelated and must first be acted upon in the digestive process to form chelates before they are of use to the body. The natural chelating process is not performed efficiently in many people, and because of this a good deal of the mineral supplements they take are of little use.
When you realize that the body does not use whatever it takes in, that most of us do not digest our foods efficiently, that only 2 to 10 percent of inorganic iron taken into the body is actually absorbed, and, even with this small percentage, 50 percent is then eliminated, you can recognize the importance of taking minerals that have been chelated. Chelated mineral supplements provide three to ten times greater assimilation than the non-chelated ones, and are well worth the small additional cost.
Time Release
A major step forward in vitamin manufacturing has been the introduction of time-release supplements. Time release is a process by which vitamins are enrobed in micropellets [tiny time pills] and then combined into a special base for their release in a pattern that assures eight- to twelve-hour absorption. Most vitamins are water soluble and cannot be stored in the body. Without time release, they are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, and, no matter how large the dose, are excreted in the urine within two or three hours.
Time-release supplements can offer optimum effectiveness, minimal excretory loss, and stable blood levels all during the day and through the night.
